Modern Self-Enslavement

The modern world falls captive to its excessive desires. While most well-off people are not slaves to difficult and back-breaking labor, we are prisoners of our own desires. We all make our own prisons that we then seek to make better by consuming and buying more so that our time in them is more comfortable.

Yet few realize that there is another way to escape the hold of the system. Having less and consuming less releases the hold of our system on us. The more we own, especially if financed with debt, the more difficult it is to have freedom in our lives. Perhaps the answer to our problems is not another business, a higher paying job, or viral celebrity fame but having less.
